Bengaluru: An unemployed 26-year-old hotel management graduate has been arrested over allegations of filming and posting voyeuristic videos of women walking on the streets of the city.Banashankari police had taken up a suo-motu case against Gurdeep Singh whose Instagram account had 45 videos of women when his arrest was made Wednesday.As police were tracking the videos posted by the KR Pura resident, a college student flagged the matter stating: “Recently, there was a video of me… It was taken inappropriately and then posted on Instagram without my consent. The reel has been viewed by many and I have been getting vulgar messages.” The social account had 10k followers, she stated while tagging city police.PSI Praveen Hosur had said in his complaint, which led to the registration of the case on June 12, that the films were noticed when police were keeping a watch on those who were creating derogatory videos about political parties, castes, and religions.A senior officer told TOI, “We are working on getting an order from the court to get the handle deleted or deactivated by Instagram.”Police noticed that the inappropriate reels uploaded by the Punjab native were shown in slow motion to get more views.During interrogation, Gurdeep, who stays with his elder brother in the city, told police that he shot the videos in various places, including Church Street, Koramangala and Indiranagar but there was no intent to project obscenity. Gurdeep’s mobile phone has been seized and will be sent to the forensic science laboratory to retrieve the data, police said.—-CM vows stern action against offendersBengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah Thursday strongly condemned recent incidents of voyeurism and harassment targeting women in public spaces, calling such acts a “betrayal of societal values” and vowing firm action against the perpetrators.In a message posted on X, Siddaramaiah said, “It pains me deeply to see women being secretly filmed and harassed in public spaces, with such videos circulated online at the cost of women’s dignity. This is not the Karnataka we stand for.”He said prompt action had been taken by the govt, resulting in several arrests. “We are monitoring such activities closely,” he wrote.“We must ask ourselves: where is our society headed if women cannot walk freely without fear of voyeurism or harassment? Such acts are crimes and betray our values as a society,” he added.The CM urged people to be proactive in reporting such online content by calling 1930 or visiting cybercrime.gov.in.“Let us all work together to build a Karnataka where every woman feels safe, respected, and free,” he said.“To the women of our state: we stand with you. Your safety and dignity are our priority, and we will act firmly against such crimes,” he said.
