Thane girl wins best athlete award at nat’l championship | Mumbai News
Thane: Shourya Ambure from Thane once again made her mark in Indian athletics by winning the best athlete award in the girls under-18 category at the 40th National Junior Athletics Championship held in Bhubaneshwar recently. She continued this winning streak for yet another season. This was her second consecutive year receiving the best athlete award, having won it last year in the under-16 category. Shourya’s outstanding performances included a gold medal in the 100-metre hurdles with an elapsed time of 13.86 seconds. She went on to bag a silver in the 100-metre sprint with a time of 12.14 seconds.Another silver medal came as part of the medley relay team of Maharashtra. Her semifinal performance in the 100-metre was also impressive, clocking 11.95 seconds. “Shourya’s achievements have brought pride to her coaches and parents, reflecting her dedication and hard work. Following her success at the national level, Shourya was picked for the team India Camp in Delhi before representing the country at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, scheduled shortly.Earlier this year, in April, Shourya also won a bronze medal at the Asian Athletics Championships held in Saudi Arabia, in her debut international appearance, further establishing her reputation as one of India’s most promising young athletes. As she prepares to compete on the international stage, the athletics community and her supporters are hopeful for more stellar performances from this talented sprinter and hurdler.“Shourya’s consistent performance is a testament to her commitment and the excellent support from our academy,” said her coach Ajit Kulkarni.
