After years of speculation and growing anticipation, Tesla has officially entered the Indian automotive market. The company has now launched the Model Y SUV as its first offering in the country. Alongside the vehicle launch, Tesla has opened its first showroom in Mumbai, located in the prominent Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and shortly another showroom will open in New Delhi. Tesla Model Y launched in India

Deliveries for the standard rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant are set to begin within this quarter, while the RWD Long Range version is slated for dispatch starting October 2025. In India, the Model Y will take on rivals such as the Kia EV6, BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and both the Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge. Tesla Model Y vs Kia EV6 vs BMW iX1: Price, variantsThe new Tesla Model Y will be offered in two variants – Standard and Long Range – priced at Rs 59.89 lakh and Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. The BMW iX1 is offered in a single eDrive20L M Sport variant, priced at Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable among the three. The EV6 too is offered in a single fully loaded AWD GT-Line variant and is priced at Rs 65.9 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it between the two Model Y variants in terms of cost.Tesla Model Y vs Kia EV6 vs BMW iX1: DimensionsComparing dimensions next, the Model Y measures 4751 mm in length, 1920 mm in width, 1624 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2891 mm. The EV6 measures 4695 mm in length, 1890 mm in width, 1570 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2900 mm. The BMW iX1 LWB measures 4616 mm in length, 1845 mm in width, 1612 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2800 mm.

Dimensions

The Tesla Model Y is the longest of the three, followed by the EV6, with the iX1 being the shortest. Again, the Model Y is the widest, while the iX1 is the narrowest. The Model Y is also the tallest, enhancing its SUV-like stance; the EV6 is the lowest, giving it a sportier silhouette. The Kia EV6 leads with the longest wheelbase (2900 mm). As for range, the Standard Model Y delivers up to 500 km of WLTP-rated driving range and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The Long Range version stretches its range to 622 km (WLTP) and completes the same sprint in a quicker 5.6 seconds. Despite the difference in battery output, both versions come with a rear-wheel-drive setup and have a claimed top speed of 201 km/h.

Battery pack options

The new EV6 is powered by an 84 kWh battery paired with dual electric motors which puts out 325 hp of power and 605 nm torque. It has a claimed range of 581 km in one full charge and can sprint from 0-100 kph in 5.3 seconds. With a 350 kW DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 0 to 80% in just 18 minutes.The iX1 is offered in a single eDrive20L M Sport variant and gets a 66.4 kWh battery pack paired with a single PMSM electric motor which puts out 204 hp of power and 250 nm torque. It has a claimed range of 531 km in one full charge and using a 130 kW DC charger the battery can be juiced from 10 % to 80 % in 29 minutes (120 kms range in 10 min). Using an 11 kW AC charger it can be juiced from 0 % to 100 % in about 6.5 hours. The EV SUV comes with an 11 kW wall box charger.Tesla Model Y vs Kia EV6 vs BMW iX1: FeaturesThe India-spec Tesla Model Y comes loaded with a host of premium features. It includes a large 15.3-inch infotainment touchscreen at the centre, ventilated and heated power-adjustable front seats, and rear seats that are both heated and electrically foldable in a two-way configuration. Passengers also get an 8-inch screen at the rear, a 9-speaker sound system, ambient interior lighting, dedicated air vents with electric controls for both front and back rows, and a panoramic glass roof. The vehicle is equipped with eight external cameras to support advanced driver-assistance functions.

Tesla Model Y Interior

The BMW X1 and features a “Widescreen Curved Display” that combines a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control system, a 205W 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Safety features include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a park assist feature, eight airbags, ISOFIX anchors for child seats, and an electronic parking brake.

BMW iX1 and EV6 Interior

Features-wise, the EV6 gets a large curved panoramic display that combines the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. The steering wheel has been upgraded with a fingerprint scanner, enabling registered users to drive the car without a key. Additional features include over-the-air (OTA) updates, AI-powered navigation, a digital rearview mirror, wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car technology, Level 2 ADAS, remote park assist, and more advanced functionalities.
