Experts say snakes often enter dry, enclosed spaces like shoes, helmets, and storage bags during the rainy season.Basic precautions to follow:
- Always check shoes or bags kept outside before use
- Avoid walking barefoot in grassy or poorly lit areas
- Call a certified rescuer if a snake is spotted — do not attempt to handle it
- Keep surroundings clean to prevent rodents, which in turn attract snakes
- Trim grass and remove clutter like woodpiles or debris where snakes can hide.
- Never try to handle or kill a snake yourself — contact a local snake rescuer for safe removal.
- Close gaps under doors and windows to keep snakes from entering homes or sheds.
- If you’re stepping outdoors in the dark, use a torch to check your path.
