Ravichandran Ashwin conferred Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu - WATCH

NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin was conferred with the Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu during a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. The BCCI shared a video of Ashwin receiving the honour on its official X handle. The Padma Shri is India’s fourth-highest civilian award, following the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Bhushan.
Recognised as one of India’s finest spin bowlers, Ashwin received the prestigious honour for his outstanding contribution to cricket.
Ashwin played a crucial role in India’s triumphs at the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.

In Test cricket, Ashwin boasts 537 wickets from 106 matches, making him India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the format. He has also scored 3,503 runs, including six centuries, showcasing his prowess as an all-rounder.
Across limited-overs formats, Ashwin has picked up 156 wickets in ODIs and 72 wickets in T20Is.

He retired from international cricket last year after India’s Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
