Rapido captain files counter-complaint against woman rider in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The ongoing investigation into the matter of a Rapido bike-taxi captain slapping a woman rider has taken an interesting turn, with the accused, Suman S, filing a counter-complaint. On Monday evening, Jayanagar police arrested Suman on charges of outraging the modesty of a woman and voluntarily causing hurt. A passerby had recorded the fight between the two on his mobile, capturing Suman’s act of slapping the 28-year-old woman. However, Suman claimed it was the woman who hit him first, and his slap was only in retaliation. “It was she who began the fight, abused me, and repeatedly slapped me. But no one recorded it. Even after she hit me, I warned her, but she continued to abuse me. Hence, I lost my cool and slapped her,” Suman stated in his complaint.Based on the complaint, police have registered a non-cognizable report against the woman. Both parties will be summoned to the station for another round of statements. After the passperby’s video clip of the June 13 incident went viral, police had approached the woman and convinced her to file a complaint. After arresting Suman, cops seized CCTV footage from the vicinity, which showed the woman hitting the bike captain first.
