'Post not vacant now': DK Suresh says CM hopes 'still alive' for elder brother DK Shivakumar; calls him a disciplined soldier

BENGALURU: A day after deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar endorsed Siddaramaiah‘s declaration that he would remain CM for a full five-year term, DK Suresh Thursday said there is still “hope” his brother would become CM.The former Bangalore Rural MP said that while the CM’s post is not vacant now, “hope still exists and will remain tomorrow too” that Shivakumar would be CM.“Hope and belief are what drive our lives,” Suresh said. “Without belief, life itself becomes difficult. I still have hope. Shivakumar has toiled with great loyalty for the party. People from some regions placed their trust in him and supported Congress hoping he could get a chance to be CM.”On Shivakumar’s public endorsement of Siddaramaiah as CM, Suresh said, “He has been saying that from the beginning and continues to say so now. Even earlier, he said that as a disciplined soldier he is committed to party brass’ decisions.”Asked whether Shivakumar’s efforts would be rewarded, Suresh said, “Definitely, some day he will be rewarded. It must happen. Whether he becomes CM or not is not for me to decide — I’m too small a person for that. That’s a decision for our seniors.”Suresh said his brother’s tone while endorsing Siddaramaiah was not one of disappointment. “It is not helplessness but respect for the party,” he said. “When one holds a responsible position in the party, one must honour the organisation. Shivakumar has done just that. As state party president, it is his duty to ensure party discipline and follow the high command’s decisions. He has clearly expressed this.”On public works minister Satish Jarkiholi’s remark that he would be a contender for the CM post in 2028, Suresh said, “To become an MLA, MP, minister, or CM – it must be written in one’s fate. It is God’s will, and people’s blessing. Who knows what is written in their fate?”
