Mysuru-Udaipur train engine catches fire, occupants safe | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: A fire broke out in the engine of the Mysuru–Udaipur Humsafar Express near Channapatna Thursday morning, resulting in a temporary disruption of the service. However, no casualties were reported, and the train resumed its journey after a three-hour delay.The incident occurred near Vandaraguppe railway crossing around 11.20am. According to witnesses, the fire was first spotted by a car occupant, who alerted the loco pilots by gesturing from the roadside. CCTV footage from a nearby commercial building captured the engine moving while flames billowed from the roof.The Channapatna fire and emergency services, located about 4km from the site, responded swiftly. Two fire tenders extinguished the flames within 20 minutes.“Around 11.25 am, we received a call about the fire near the Vandaraguppe railway crossing. Fortunately, it had not reached the diesel tank or other compartments. We doused the flames before it could spread,” said a fire department official of Channapatna.Railway authorities confirmed that the fire was caused by a technical issue and that no passengers were injured.The affected engine was taken to the Krishnarajapuram Loco Shed for investigation. A replacement engine was dispatched from Bengaluru and it was used to haul the train up to the state capital. A second locomotive was attached for the remainder of the journey towards Udaipur.Railway officials said the train was delayed by 64 minutes at the site of the incident. Normal operations resumed once the new engine was in place.
