Midnight fire breaks out at Bengaluru’s Victoria Hospital burns block, no casualties reported | Bengaluru News
BENGALURU: An accidental fire broke out in a seminar room in the burns block at Victoria Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday. According to the officials, there were no casualties reported. The hospital staff relocated around 26 patients from the burns ward to a different block and ensured uninterrupted medical care and treatment.According to fire and emergency services, they received an alert about the fire breaking out in the seminar room in Mahabodhi Burns Centre around 3:15 am. A water tanker from Chamarajpet fire station was pressed into operation. The officials put out the fire before it spread to the entire block.A senior officer said the fire broke out in a switchboard of the room. Thick smoke was noticed by the staff and patients’ attendants. The hospital staff began shifting the patients from the burns ward adjacent to the seminar room. The fire and emergency officials helped the staff clear the patients.According to the statement released by the hospital, there was a small fire (due to a short circuit of a switchboard) in the seminar room in the burns block around 3 am. The fire and emergency services department put out the fire.There were a total of 26 patients, including 14 males, five females, and seven children. Five among the 26 were in ICU. In view of the smoke, as a precautionary measure, we shifted all the patients from this ward to H block.The Dean & Director, BMCRI, Dr Ramesh Krishna, Medical Superintendent Dr Deepak, and other doctors concerned visited the hospital and took measures to continue treatment for patients. The hospital further stated that all the patients, patient attendants, doctors, and staff are safe, and the situation is under control. The police are yet to receive an official complaint about the incident.
