Maruti Baleno, Ertiga get this safety upgrade as standard: Prices hiked by up to 1.4%

Maruti Suzuki has reinforced safety in two of its most popular models in India: the Baleno hatchback and the Ertiga MPV. Both vehicles will now come equipped with six airbags as standard across all variants. The company announced this in a regulatory filing on Wednesday. Here’s a look at key details.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Ertiga: Now equipped with six airbags as standard

With this safety upgrade, the company has marginally increased the prices of both models. The company has stated that the Ertiga will see a price increase of up to 1.4 percent, while the Baleno’s prices will go up by 0.5 percent. The Ertiga now starts at Rs 8.96 lakh and goes up to Rs 13.25 lakh, ex-showroom. The Baleno is now priced between Rs 6.70 lakh and Rs 9.92 lakh, ex-showroom.This update aligns with Maruti Suzuki’s broader initiative to make its cars safer and also reflects the auto industry’s gradual compliance with upcoming government regulations. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has already announced that all new passenger vehicles sold in India will be required to offer six airbags as standard by October 2025.

Over the past few months, Maruti has steadily expanded its safety net, bringing six airbags to entry-level models like the Alto K10, WagonR, Celerio, and Eeco. This move has now made the feature standard across the entire Arena portfolio, and more recently, it’s being extended across Nexa models as well.In other news, Maruti Suzuki saw a slight dip in monthly sales. In June 2025, the company reported a 6 percent year-on-year decline, delivering 1.68 lakh units compared to 1.79 lakh in the same month last year. Domestic passenger vehicle sales dropped by 13 percent to 1.19 lakh units.
