Man dies a week after hit-and-run on Eastern Express Highway in Mumbai; probe on to trace vehicle | Mumbai News
MUMBAI: A 48-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after being hospitalized for more than a week after he was injured when a unknown speeding vehicle hit his vehicle in the early hours of June 2nd on the Eastern Express Highway in Vikhroli East.The deceased, Charan Singh Tejendrasingh Kukreja, a resident of Nalasopara in Palghar district, was reportedly injured while he was driving his car along the northbound arm of the highway near Kanjur village.His younger brother, Sarabjit Singh Kukreja told police that his elder brother Charan was unemployed and was staying alone after his wife left him a few years ago. He was known to move from place to place and had been out of contact with his family for two months prior to the incident.The accident took place on June 2 when a passerby, Mehul Jain witnessed the incident and informed Vikhroli police. The police rushed him to Veer Savarkar Hospital, from where he was later shifted to Sion Hospital for further treatment. He sustained severe head trauma and multiple injuries, including bruising on his knees and wrist.On June 4th, the family shifted him to Criticare Hospital in Juhu for better treatment. However, his condition deteriorated, and he was declared dead on June 8. On Tuesday Sarabjit Singh filed a formal complaint with the Kanjurmarg Police Station, alleging that the vehicle involved was being driven in a reckless and negligent manner, which directly led to his brother’s fatal injuries. Police have registered a case and are investigating the identity and whereabouts of the vehicle and its driver.
