Kalyan: A 35-year-old man was booked for assaulting and attempting to bite a 13-year-old boy inside the lift of a housing complex in Ambernath East. The incident took place on July 4, when the boy, who lives on the 14th floor, was headed for his tuition. When the lift opened on the 9th floor, he pressed the button to close the door, but immediately pressed the ‘open’ button on noticing his friend’s father, Kailash Tanwani, and a woman outside. The boy told TOI, “As soon as uncle [the accused] entered the lift, he started slapping me.” The accused also tried to bite the boy’s hand, but he pushed him away. The woman tried to stop the assault, but failed. After the trio stepped out of the lift, Tanwani again slapped the boy. He allegedly also threatened to harm the teenager with a knife. When the CCTV footage of the incident went viral, police registered an FIR on Tuesday. — Pradeep Gupta
