MUMBAI: Mahim Samaritan and World Memon Organisation (WMO) Mumbai president Haji Mudassar Patel celebrated his birthday on July 9 by distributing college textbooks free among needy students.Accompanied by former minister Anees Ahmed, WMO India chapter president Haseen Aghadi, a senior functionary in WMO Ehsan Gadawala and a few other friends, Patel cut a cake at a simple function but used the occasion to underline the value of education.“I too could have thrown a birthday party at a five-star hotel, but I chose to use the money to buy books for poor students. The textbooks are for class 11th and 12th of Arts, Science and Commerce streams,” said Patel whose help to educational institutions in getting their issues solved have earned him praise from different quarters.Former minister Anees Ahmed, while congratulating Patel on his birthday, remarked that it is very rare to see someone celebrating his birthday by distributing textbooks. “Whether it Anjuman-I-Isam in Mumbai or institutions in Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Malegaon, Mudassar Patel reaches out to educational institutions in distress. His love for education is inspirational. This is evident by the fact that he celebrates his birthday by gifting textbooks to hundreds of needy students,” Ahmed said.Aghadi appreciated the efforts of Patel. “We saw how during the COVID, Mudassar Patel was out on the streets taking ration kits to the needy families. He has set sn example for people who want to do social work. His commitment for education is admirable and we all pray for a long and happy life to him,” said Aghadi.
