Bengaluru: India is on track to become a global startup superpower by 2035, with over half of its new startups expected to emerge from beyond the major metros, according to a new report by TiE Bangalore unveiled at the 10th Matrix Global Summit.Titled India as a Startup Superpower by 2035, the roadmap outlines a shift toward a more inclusive and distributed startup economy, with deep roots in tier 2 and 3 cities. Built from insights of 60 ecosystem leaders—founders, investors, policymakers, and academics—the report calls for bold reforms in policy, education, access to capital, and deep-tech innovation.“We now have the opportunity to architect an ecosystem that is inclusive by design and transformative by intent,” said Madan Padaki, president of TiE Bangalore.The report’s ambitious goals include startups contributing 15% to India’s GDP, 50 million new jobs, and over 100 global IPOs. It proposes embedding entrepreneurship in 75% of secondary schools and 80% of higher ed institutions—engaging 1 million students annually in startup thinking. Challenges include fragmented policies, weak capital access, and little systemic support for failed founders. The report urges a unified national policy, patient domestic capital, and the rise of deep-tech clusters in cities like Coimbatore, Kochi, and Indore.It also sets inclusion targets: 40% women founders and greater rural participation—positioning India as both a hub for frugal innovation and a source of scalable deep-tech IP.
