IFS officer suspended for negligence

Bengaluru: A week after the suspension of two forest officials over the poisoning of five tigers at MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, the govt Monday ordered the suspension of Y Chakrapani — IFS officer of 2012 batch who is deputy conservator of forests, MM Hills — citing negligence and dereliction of duty. This is the Chakrapani’s second suspension since June 2023; he was previously suspended in connection with a teakwood scam in Virajpet, Kodagu.Referring to the preliminary findings of the high-level committee probing the poisoning and testimonies of frontline staffers at MM Hills, the suspension order said the sanctuary officers failed in their basic duty of ensuring timely payment of wages to watchers even though funds were made available at the end of April. The committee had found that salaries of outsourced staffers at MM Hills were not paid since March 2025.
