Horrific attack in Mumbai: Upset over breakup, man stabs ex-girlfriend outside maternity hospital, then slits his own throat | Mumbai News
MUMBAI: A 24-year-old unemployed man, upset over breakup with his girlfriend, chased her to a maternity hospital in full public view in Lalbaug’s Chinchpokli area early Friday morning, stabbed her, and then slit his own throat. The accused, identified as Sonu Barai, died from his injuries, while the 24-year-old woman, Manisha Yadav, is admitted to the ICU of a private hospital.
According to Kalachowki police, the incident occurred around 10:30am on Dattaram Lad Marg near Chinchpokli, when the man and woman were walking towards Chinchpokli station from the direction of the Kalachowki police station. Eyewitnesses told police that the man suddenly began attacking the woman with a knife on the road. In an attempt to save her life, the woman ran into a nearby nursing home. The assailant followed her inside and stabbed her multiple times. When locals and nursing home staff tried to intervene, the man reportedly turned the knife on himself and slit his own throat. Both were rushed to KEM Hospital in Parel for immediate treatment. The Kalachowki Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) R. Ragasudha reached the spot soon after the incident. A police team has also been deployed at KEM Hospital. “From the preliminary inquiries it appears that the two who are neighbours were in relationship for a while but recently they broke off as the accused suspected her of looking for someone else. On Friday the accused had called the girl to meet near by when the argument broke off and he started assaulting her,” said an official.
