GOI, be crunchy about munchies
GOI is asking all its departments to display clear info about the sugar, fat and trans-fat content of popular Indian snacks, such as samosa and jalebi. This makes all the more glaring the inaction on labelling of packaged foods. Actually, this issue has become a litmus test for how public health decisions are made in India. Who gets to decide what appears on front-of-pack labels? People whose health is at risk, bureaucrats drafting the regulations, or industry whose profits are on the line?
