Dangerous ideas online
A teenager in France was arrested because he planned to hurt women. He had two knives in his bag and was part of an online group called incels. This group believes very harmful things — like blaming women for their problems and thinking violence is okay. That’s dangerous.
French police are treating this seriously. They’re calling it terrorism, because hurting people just because they’re women is a big crime.
Incel ideas have spread online for years, and many boys around the world have seen this kind of content — including in India. Videos and posts on social media sometimes show hurting women as a joke or even say it’s fine. But that’s not okay.
Some adults say these boys need help, like counselling. Others say hurting or planning to hurt women is a crime, and they must be punished. Both can be true. We need to protect women and girls, and we also need to help boys before they fall into these toxic online spaces.
Women’s rights have been a long, hard fight. In many places, like India, that fight still continues. So it’s important to stop those who hurt women — and also stop these dangerous ideas from growing in young minds.
