Cyclonic circulation may form over Arabian Sea by May 21, says IMD | Bengaluru News

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that an upper air cyclonic circulation is likely to form around May 21 over the east-central Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast.A low-pressure system is expected to develop in the region around May 22, and subsequently move northward whilst gaining strength, according to IMD.The Bengaluru Regional Meteorological Centre has alerted coastal Karnataka about extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning accompanied by strong surface winds through May 21, followed by very heavy to heavy rainfall until May 26.IMD’s forecast for south interior Karnataka includes extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning until May 21, followed by heavy to very heavy rainfall through May 26.For north interior Karnataka, the forecast indicates very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning until May 21, with heavy rainfall continuing until May 26.In Bengaluru, severe rainfall has caused significant damage, resulting in three fatalities in recent days.“Manmohan Kamath (63), a resident of Madhuvan Apartments in NS Palya, and Dinesh (12), son of Bharath, a Nepal national residing in an apartment in the BTM Second Stage Dollars Colony, NS Palya,” died from electrocution yesterday.According to DCP Sarah Fathima of South East Bengaluru, Kamath was electrocuted whilst attempting to operate a motor to remove water from the apartment basement.A previous casualty occurred when a wall collapsed.Chief Minister Siddaramiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar are scheduled to inspect the city on May 21.Previously, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara stated that the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), which has replaced the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), was working to address severe waterlogging in various parts of the city affected by heavy rainfall.
