CM Siddaramaiah orders on-ground inspections amid rising flood concerns in Karnataka | Bengaluru News
NEW DELHI: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has instructed all district in-charge ministers and top state officials to personally visit flood-affected areas across the state, following days of heavy monsoon rains that have caused extensive damage to homes and infrastructure. The chief minister’s directive comes ahead of a two-day review meeting scheduled for May 30 and 31, where deputy commissioners (DCs), Zilla Panchayat CEOs and district secretaries will assess the flood response and coordinate further relief measures. A statement from Siddaramaiah’s office confirmed that ministers and secretaries have been told to conduct on-ground inspections and oversee relief operations in districts impacted by rising water levels and landslides. So far, official figures indicate that 45 homes have been completely destroyed and over 1,300 partially damaged due to the ongoing rains. State authorities claim that nearly all affected families have received financial aid.Siddaramaiah has also asked the state’s chief secretary to monitor the situation closely and ensure that resources are mobilised without delay. As of May 26, more than ₹973 crore remains available in disaster relief funds at the district and taluk levels. Authorities have identified 170 taluks across Karnataka as vulnerable to flooding and landslides. In preparation, over 2,200 care and shelter centres have been set up, while 201 locations within Bengaluru city limits have been marked as high-risk flood zones. With the monsoon season intensifying, Siddaramaiah stressed the need for vigilance and rapid response, urging all departments to work in coordination to minimise further damage and ensure public safety.
