Belagavi/Bengaluru: Two girls will bag maximum number of gold medals in the upcoming annual convocation of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), scheduled for July 4. Namrata C Prabhu, Oxford College of Engineering, Bengaluru, will receive 13, the highest number of gold medals. “My dad is a civil engineer. I’ve been seeing him work since I was a kid and was always fascinated by it. That’s why I leaned more towards civil engineering rather than computer science, even though that has been more popular,” she said.Another student who has emerged topper is Navyashree Ganpishetty, an electronics and communication engineering student of RV Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. She has bagged 11 gold medals. “I’ve always been interested in electronic devices from a young age. My dad did his B.Tech in electronics and communication engineering. We had a lot of exposure in our college. We had hands-on experience in labs and access to important questions from VTU,” she said. She plans to pursue higher studies in VLSI (very large scale integration).Karthik L, a mechanical engineering student of Bangalore Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, and Kavana A, an electrical and electronics engineering student of GSSS Institute of Technology for Women, Mysuru, each secured seven gold medals. The 25th annual convocation of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) will be held on July 4 at its Jnana-Sangama campus in Belagavi. Ajay Kumar Sood, principal scientific advisor to govt of India, will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address.VTU will confer degree certificates to 60,052 students. The BE degrees will be given to 58,861 students (including 20,707 students of autonomous colleges), B.Tech to 117, B.Plan to 10, B.Arch to 1,040 (including 234 students of autonomous colleges), and B.Sc (Honours) to 24. Apart from this, the university is awarding 262 PhDs and 2 integrated dual degrees to research scholars.This year, VTU will confer honorary doctorate degree ‘Doctor of Science’ on V Narayanan, chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and secretary of department of space; Prashant Prakash, founder of Excel India; and CS Sunder Raju, chancellor of Atria University, Bengaluru.Mohini V, a computer science and engineering student of Dayanand Sagar Academy of Technology and Management, Bengaluru, will receive six gold medals.Colleges in top five places with the highest number of VTU ranks include Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE), Moodabidri, which secured 16 ranks, followed by Bangalore Institute of Technology (BIT), Bengaluru with 13 ranks.
