BJP workers protest against Shiv Sena MLA Abdul Sattar over ‘irregularities’ in electoral rolls in Maharashtra’s Sillod district

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The local BJP unit in Sillod taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has been protesting against Shiv Sena MLA Abdul Sattar over alleged large-scale irregularities in electoral rolls.BJP district general secretary Kamlesh Kataria said many BLOs and other workers associated with the preparation and upgradation of electoral rolls were affiliated with educational institutions run by Sattar.“Ward number eight, for instance, has four govt quarters where around 520 voters are shown, which is highly objectionable. In another glaring case, around 200 voters from the Shikshak Colony area have been shown as residents of faraway areas. Around 3,800 voters have multiple entries. Nearly 4,000 objections have been filed towards the electoral rolls, which need serious official attention,” he said.Kataria added that revenue department workers were expected to join official teams responsible for the upgradation of electoral rolls as per the assurance given by the Sillod SDM, but it did not happen. BJP workers on Monday observed a token hunger strike, which was called off after local authorities assured that they would address issues related to the electoral rolls.Sillod SDM Latif Pathan said six squads have been formed to carry out home visits of every registered voter. “We have scheduled hearings on roughly all 4,000 objections received related to electoral rolls. These rolls will be finalised after hearings are over,” he told TOI.Sattar could not be reached for comments. Sattar left Congress and joined Shiv Sena ahead of the 2019 assembly polls. He then sided with Eknath Shinde after a split in the Sena and won the last assembly election by a margin of over 2,400 votes.
