Bengaluru: South-east division police paid surprise visit to central prison, seized mobile, stove and Rs 16k cash

Bengaluru: Following a few incidents of fights among prisoners in central prison, Parappana Agrahara, the south-east division police on Friday morning gave a surprise visit to the prison and warned inmates to maintain law and order.During the visit, police found a mobile phone, a charger, Rs 16,000 in cash, and an electric stove. The surprise visit was headed by DCP (south-east) Sarah Fathima and had ACP (Electronics City), five police inspectors, and more than a hundred policemen from the sub-division.A senior officer said a few cases of fights among prisoners were reported to Parappana Agrahara police station in the last two months. “We wanted to ensure the inmates maintain law and order inside and do not indulge in such activities in future. So, we gave a surprise visit around 7.30am, and a few rowdies and inmates, who had indulged in fights were warned. When we went to the barracks, we found a mobile, charger, cash, and stove.We have seized them and are probing further to ascertain how those banned items went inside the prison and who was using them,” an officer said.
