Bakery owner held for harassing schoolgirl in store in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 38-year-old bakery owner was arrested on charges of sexually harassing a nine-year-old girl near MS Palya Circle in north Bengaluru Monday night by luring her inside his store. The arrested man is Satish, owner of SRS Iyengar Bakery at Singapura village, Vidyaranyapura. The schoolgirl’s mother told police she went to buy medicines from a shop along with her daughter. When the mother was busy purchasing medicines, the girl asked for money to buy ice cream. The mother gave her Rs 20 and asked her to buy ice cream from the bakery located opposite the medical store. After buying medicine, the mother went to another store and purchased juice. When she looked for her daughter, she didn’t find her outside the bakery. The mother rushed to the bakery and called her, and the girl ran to her from inside the store. When the mother asked the girl what had happened, Satish said the girl had come inside to see how he was preparing bread. The mother suspected something was amiss and, after reaching home, asked her daughter why she was inside the bakery. The girl then said Satish pulled her to a corner and started touching her inappropriately in her private parts. The mother went back to the bakery and questioned Satish. A neighbour helped her check CCTV footage of the store, which showed Satish taking the girl to the place where he was preparing bread and she running out after two minutes. Police swung into action and arrested Satish from his house Tuesday evening, and made his confess.
