Bengaluru mall’s Pink Parking for expecting mothers draws praise from visiting Punekar | Bengaluru News
BENGALURU: A simple parking intervention at a Bengaluru mall left a lasting impression on a visitor from Pune this Christmas Eve, highlighting how small design choices can significantly improve everyday public experiences.Akshay Raina, a software engineer from Pune who was in Bengaluru on a holiday with his family, said he noticed something uncommon while visiting Nexus Mall on Bannerghatta Road. “I was in Bengaluru for the last few days to meet my sister, and as an engineer I tend to observe how things work. Parking layouts in malls are usually stressful, and this was no different until I noticed a ‘Pink Parking’ zone while exiting,” he said.Curious, Raina spent some time understanding the concept and realised that the parking bays were reserved for expecting mothers and located close to the mall entrance. “It was Christmas Eve and the mall was crowded, but this parking was thoughtfully placed near the entry gate. It is extremely beneficial for pregnant women and also creates awareness among the public. I did not see something like this back in Pune. Other malls should definitely adopt this,” he added. The initiative, introduced by Nexus Koramangala Mall, is part of a broader effort to make retail spaces more inclusive and user-centric. Explaining the rationale behind the move, Centre Director Dhanasekaran Ramachandran said that a mall’s success should not be measured only by its retail mix, but by how well it responds to the real needs of its visitors.“Our Pink Parking initiative and the dedicated parking zone for expecting mothers are small but meaningful steps towards making our spaces safer, more inclusive and more empathetic,” he said. “Customer centricity for us goes beyond retail. It is about anticipating moments of discomfort or anxiety and designing solutions that genuinely make a difference.”He added that expecting mothers deserve convenience, dignity and reassurance when they step out, and the reserved parking zones are designed to offer proximity, ease of access and peace of mind. As malls increasingly transform into community-centric destinations, Ramachandran said Nexus sees its role as creating environments that are intuitive, respectful and human-centric.“We will continue to invest in thoughtful interventions like these, because the future of retail lies in spaces that are not just vibrant and aspirational, but also caring and conscious,” he said.
