EAM Jaishankar Hands Over Modi’s Letter To BNP Chief Tarique Rahman In Dhaka

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka to attend the funeral of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and met BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman. During the meeting, he handed over a personal letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, conveying India’s deepest condolences on behalf of the government and people of India. Jaishankar emphasised Khaleda Zia’s lasting impact on India-Bangladesh relations and expressed hope that her values would continue to guide bilateral cooperation. Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, noted that Jaishankar acknowledged her role in strengthening democracy and expressed optimism about closer ties following Bangladesh’s upcoming national elections in February 2026.
