Hyundai Motor India has achieved a major sales milestone with the Creta, as the popular mid-size SUV recorded its highest-ever annual sales in a single calendar year. In 2025, Hyundai sold over 2 lakh units of the Creta, translating to an average of around 550 vehicles being sold every day.This milestone also marks 10 years of the Creta brand in India. Over the past decade, the SUV has steadily grown its footprint in one of the country’s most competitive segments, registering a compound annual growth rate of over 9 percent between 2016 and 2025. With a market share of more than 34 percent in the mid-size SUV space, the Creta continues to lead the segment. Here’s a quick look at why this model stands out.

Why is the Hyundai Creta so popular in India?

Since its introduction, the Creta has consistently been the highest-selling mid-size SUV in India in every completed year. Hyundai currently offers the Creta with multiple powertrain options, including a 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine, a 1.5-litre turbo GDi petrol engine and a 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine. Depending on the variant, these engines are paired with a range of transmission options such as a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Creta range also includes an electric version/In terms of output, the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 115 hp, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol delivers 160 hp, while the 1.5-litre diesel develops 116 hp.
