Over 150 reach out for help via ‘Safe Connect’ on Karnataka police app | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: The ‘Safe Connect’ feature of Karnataka State Police (KSP) app, which was activated in Dec 2024, has received around 150 emergency calls over the past 11 months. This feature includes a two-way audio-video capability, allowing users to connect directly with the police command centre for instant and real-time assistance. The police have shared multiple examples of how the feature has aided users. In one instance, a homemaker travelling alone to Kempegowda International Airport used the app to report her cab driver’s reckless driving. The command centre, located in city police commissioner’s office on Infantry Road, tracked her live location. Police personnel spoke to the cab driver and warned him to drive more slowly. Once she reached the airport, the woman contacted the command centre again to express her gratitude to the police. In another incident, a college student walking home at night utilised Safe Connect to ensure her safety. “The two-way audio-video facility provides a clear picture of the location and situation, helping us identify the place and assess its severity. By sharing her live location, the caller enables the patrolling police to reach the scene swiftly,” said Kuldeep Kumar Jain, the joint commissioner of police (administration). All recorded calls are stored on police servers for at least a year, allowing officers to use the data as evidence when necessary. How It WorksNavigate to the home page of KSP app, go to the ‘report’ section, and select the Safe Connect feature on the right side. After clicking on it, a red button will appear. Press the button to instantly connect to the command centre via audio and video.
