Kapoor also stresses vectors and three-dimensional geometry: “Mastery of vector operations, direction cosines, and equations of lines is essential.”For probability, Kapoor advises focusing on conditional probability and Bayes’ theorem. “Students should also be able to differentiate between the two and know which one to use depending on the type of question,” she explains. In linear programming, she highlights the importance of graph work: “A clear understanding of how to plot and interpret the feasible region is essential for determining the optimal solution.” Relations and functions should be revised with clarity, especially domain, range, and different types of relations and functions.Rajesh Rajput, PGT Maths at Uttam School for Girls, Ghaziabad, echoes similar advice, urging students to practise proofs for reflexive, symmetric, and transitive relations as well as one-one and onto functions. He recommends focusing on matrices and determinants: “Focus on solving equations using the matrix method,” he says. For calculus, he suggests revising logarithmic differentiation, second-order derivatives, integration by parts, and partial fractions. Applications of derivatives and integrals should be practised through word problems, including maxima–minima and area-based questions. Probability and linear programming questions should be practised through case-study and graph-based exercises.

Many students try to solve too many questions without a clear plan, which often leads to confusion and tiredness instead of improvement. Teachers advise students to practise smartly by sticking to the syllabus, focusing on NCERT examples, and revising in an organised way.Rajput suggests keeping preparation simple and focused. He says, “Practice smartly, not blindly. Focus on NCERT examples. Make a small formula or notes book for quick revision and attempt at least one full-length mock test every week. Consistency, accuracy, and confidence are the keys to scoring well in Math.”

If students are clear about their formulas in Mathematics, a large part of the paper becomes easier to handle. This is why learning and revising formulas before the final round of preparation is so important. Relying on last-minute revision often leads to forgotten formulas or missed steps during the exam. Teachers say that regular, daily revision helps students remember formulas better, apply them correctly, and avoid unnecessary mistakes.Sandeep Kumar Patel, PGT Mathematics at Sunbeam School, Ballia, highlights the importance of daily revision for building confidence. He says, “Mathematics is not about memorization — it’s about understanding the logic behind each concept and applying it correctly. Regular revision and solving previous years’ question papers will strengthen confidence and accuracy before the exam.”
Common mistakes to avoid in CBSE Class 12 Math exam 2026
Teachers say many students lose marks due to avoidable errors rather than lack of preparation.They also warn against ignoring NCERT. Kapoor says students often underestimate its importance. “Students skip NCERT examples and exercises, even though board questions are often framed from them,” she says. She also cautions against attempting difficult questions without clear basics. “Don’t attempt tough questions without understanding the basics. Clear concepts make problem-solving much easier.”Skipping steps to save time is another common mistake. “When students skip steps, they increase the chances of errors and also lose method marks,” Kapoor explains. She adds that reviewing mistakes after practice tests is crucial. “Learning from errors helps students avoid repeating the same mistakes in the exam.”Rajput highlights small but costly slips such as calculation errors, wrong signs, missing units, and poorly drawn graphs. “Always show steps clearly — marks are awarded for method, especially in integration and determinants,” he says. He also advises students to avoid outdated material. “As several topics have been removed from the syllabus, solving very old sample papers can be misleading,” Rajput adds.The CBSE Class 12 Math exam will be held on March 9, 2026, and students are advised to continue their preparation by smart revision, practising from NCERT, and taking regular mock tests.
