The global job market is under immense pressure. The stories of layoffs have been strongly dominating the headlines. Hirings are being delayed, and layoffs have entered the lexicon of the commons. In this climate, the placement season at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has shown some stability. The data shows a silver lining in the dark. There is a steady demand of talent despite wider economic strain.
Strong momentum through early offers
One of the main factors that have contributed to the success of the current season is undoubtedly the pre-placement offers. An increase of more than 33% has been recorded in the number of PPOs at IIT Delhi, which counts more than 300 in absolute numbers compared to last year. The growth therefore, signals that companies have gone for early hiring decisions to be able to get the talent they want without waiting for the regular recruitment process.Pre-placement offers have been a great source of assurance for students when confronted with a constrained hiring scenario.
Broad recruiter participation
The placement season has seen participation from a wide range of recruiters. Several companies made double-digit offers. These include Accenture Strategy and Consulting, Amazon, American Express, Bajaj Auto Technology Ltd, Barclays, Deutsche India Pvt Ltd, EY GDS, EY Parthenon, Google, Goldman Sachs, Graviton Research Capital, JP Morgan, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and Wells Fargo International Solutions Pvt Ltd.New-age firms and fintech companies have also featured in the process. This has expanded the range of roles offered to students.
International hiring remains present
Global opportunities have continued despite tighter overseas hiring conditions. Students have received more than 35 international offers. Recruiters are based in Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. While international numbers remain limited, the presence of overseas roles stands out amid declining global campus recruitment.
Placement process to continue till May
The placement season for 2025–26 is still underway. It will continue until the end of May. The Office of Career Services is expected to host more recruiters in the coming months. With additional phases yet to conclude, final placement numbers are likely to rise further.A rare note of stabilityAmidst the ongoing pressures on job markets worldwide, the placement performance of IIT Delhi provides a comforting relief.
