Drunk biker, brother held for assaulting cops in Bengaluru | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: A drunk biker riding against a one-way on Mysuru Road allegedly caused a ruckus and, along with his brother, assaulted police officers on Dec 25. The accused, Jayathirtha, 23, and Vishnu, 25, both electrical contractors from Nayandahalli, were arrested and later remanded in judicial custody.According to a complaint from Byatarayanapura traffic constable Anil HM, he and his colleague Anil Kumar were setting up barricades near Nayandahalli Junction around 11:50pm when they observed a Bajaj Pulsar (KA-25-HF-6616) coming from Nagarabhavi towards Nayandahalli in the wrong direction, nearly hitting them.
The rider, identified as Jayathirtha, displayed signs of intoxication. PSI Sandeep was called to the scene with an alcometer and a PDA machine. During this time, Jayathirtha verbally abused the constables and made a phone call for assistance. Soon after, Vishnu and a woman arrived at the scene.The police reported that Jayathirtha acknowledged he was drunk but attempted to flee, pushing and trying to attack the officers. Public members intervened after Anil alerted the helpline 112. Girinagar Hoysala-161 arrived at the location, but the duo allegedly continued to abuse and resist the police.Approximately at 12:45m, another Hoysala police team reached the area. Vishnu reportedly grabbed Hoysala ASI Suresh BH’s collar, dragged him, slapped him, and kicked Anil. PSI Sandeep and PSI Manjunath also rushed to assist. The woman present was instructed to leave the scene.The police faced difficulties in taking the brothers into custody. Jayathirtha’s breathalyser reading registered at 185 mg/100 ml, leading to charges for drunk driving and riding against a one-way street.Based on Anil’s complaint, Byatarayanapura police registered a case under BNS sections 121 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant), 132 (assaulting a public servant), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult to provoke a breach of peace).
