Houthi Chief Threatens Somaliland Over Military Ties With Jewish State
Iran-backed Houthis have warned Israel against deploying its military in Somaliland, the breakaway country recognised by Tel Aviv. Abdulmalik al-Houthi warned that the IDF presence in the country would be ‘military targets’. The threat comes days after Benjamin Netanyahu announced the recognition of Somaliland, evoking stern protests from the Arab nations. Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 during a descent into conflict that continues to leave the east African country fragile.
