IS 19445:2025: BIS introduces new standard to test bomb disposal system; to improve country’s security | India News
NEW DELHI: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on Sturday introduced a national standard to test and assess bomb disposal systems. The standard is called IS 19445:2025 and it has been developed at the request of the Union ministry of home affairs and the Terminal Ballistic Research Laboratory.Consumer affairs secretary Nidhi Khare told news agency PTI that the standard was meant for voluntary use by government procurement agencies, manufacturers and testing bodies. “Its implementation is expected to bring uniformity in evaluation practices, promote quality-driven manufacturing, and enhance confidence in bomb disposal systems deployed in critical security operations,” she said in a statement. The ministry further said that the existing international standards were either difficult to access or did not fully match the kinds of threats and operating conditions faced by Indian security forces. While several public and private agencies make these systems in India, their safe use depends on strict and standard testing. The new standard provides a common reference for manufacturers, test sponsors and accredited labs. While it draws from global best practices, the standard has been adapted to Indian threat conditions, helping local manufacturers improve quality and compete internationally.
