Importance of follow up and taking social impact interventions to Panchayat level!
When we work on social impact projects – the importance of follow up on the efforts and intervention that we take up on ground becomes equally, if not more important. Social Impact projects aim to enable and strengthen the communities at the last mile. The entire effort is to reach out to the last mile, hear from them, and work grounds up and tailor interventions that can benefit them the most. Most of people in India continue to live in areas that are far away from heart of cities. Resources at these areas are not as easily available as they are in cities. Panchayat system is at the fulcrum of every district, pan India. Panchayat within a village is for the people, and its purpose is to have gatherings discuss issues and suggestions of people to make their neighborhood better, and also through these provide essential services to the community members that can benefit them. These Villages and Panchayats are often hundreds of kilometers away from cities.
As part of moving towards Viksit Bharat 2047 it is important that we all have a conscious awareness of strengthening the village ecosystem. Villages are the heart of our country. People here are very particular regarding preserving their culture and identity. One also gets to see the beauty of villages which is unaffected by the chaos and overpopulation that we often find in cities. If we are able to strengthen the panchayats – and make them as aligned as how we see the cities, a lot of the migration as a result can also stop from these villages resulting in decongestion of cities and better quality of life there as well. This in earlier times would have been difficult, but in today’s Viksit Bharat time, through intervention of technology we can make this possible at the local village level. There can be various interventions that can be done in villages to strengthen the local population, so they are also able to generate a good livelihood there itself.
When we do end up implementing interventions in lines with above, it is important to continue to follow up with the community members. Often, when we implement / execute something it stays as a one-time effort. In order for us to meaningfully make a difference, it is important to keep circling back with the community members and checking how the intervention is helping or not / if any course corrections are required.
As we also plan our vacations – a very good destination for a vacation can also be to visit the village side of India – which is unbelievably clean and beautiful. It can be one of the best ways to learn about different cultures of our country in its purest form. When we look for a reset, this can indeed be a great way of resetting and also discovering our country.
Also, as we get to the villages, we would better understand what 95% of India thinks and how they live, and the same would also help us to suitably make and continue on our plan of Viksit Bharat 2047. Community Members in these villages are integral part of our country, and we have to always take them along in every step of our country’s journey.
