MPSC Maharashtra revises MCQ answer sheet format with fifth option and new evaluation rules
The Maharashtra Public Service Commission has announced changes to objective MCQ examination answer sheets under a new recruitment policy. The move aims to improve accuracy, transparency, and handling of candidate responses during evaluations conducted by the Commission.Officials said the revised system introduces carbonless answer sheets in two copies, allowing candidates to retain one copy after the examination. You may notice the format looks different, but the process remains strictly regulated.Structure of the revised answer sheetThe original answer sheet now has two parts. Part one is meant only for marking answers, while part two records personal details such as examination name, sitting number, subject code, question paper number, and signatures of both the candidate and invigilator. After submission, invigilators must separate part two from part one.Meeting number and submission rulesThe candidate meeting number has been changed to a seven digit numeric format instead of an eight character alphanumeric code. This number will stay the same throughout the entire selection process as mentioned in the relevant advertisement. Any writing, marks, or symbols on part one apart from answers will invalidate the sheet.New fifth option and negative markingA fifth option has been added to every MCQ. Candidates must select one of the five options for each question, including the fifth option if no answer is attempted. You should remember that failing to shade any option or marking multiple options will result in a deduction of 25 per cent marks for that question.Evaluation process and invalid conditionsIncorrect answers, amended responses, or unanswered questions will attract the same 25 per cent deduction, and fractional scores will remain unchanged. The Commission will declare answer sheets invalid if signatures are missing, non black ink pens are used, QR codes or timing tracks are damaged, or if irrelevant remarks appear.Detailed instructions for using the carbonless answer sheet will appear on the back page of the duplicate copy. Candidates must use only a black ink ball point pen and clearly mention the question book number. Any damage to printed elements or failure to follow updated instructions issued by the Commission will lead to rejection. Invigilators will separate the personal details section immediately after submission as required by examination protocol nationwide uniformly.The revised procedure will apply to all examinations conducted after March 1, 2026.
