‘She deserved it’: Bengaluru techie shoots wife point-blank; planned murder for months, kept knife as backup if gun failed | Bengaluru News

BENGALURU: The horrific murder of a 39-year-old bank manager by her estranged husband in west Bengaluru on Tuesday was planned with chilling precision months in advance.On Wednesday, the accused was remanded in 14 days of police custody.

Based on preliminary investigations, police sources said the accused, software engineer Balamurugan, 40, had made up his mind nearly four months ago to kill his wife Bhuvaneshwari. A bank manager and a resident of 10th Cross in Rajajinagar, Bhuvaneshwari was shot at from point-blank range by Balamurugan near the 1st Main Road in Rajajinagar Industrial Area around 6.30 pm. He later walked into Magadi Road police station, surrendered, and handed over a pistol and a knife to the cops. “Months earlier, he had allegedly procured a pistol and ammunition through illegal channels. However, determined not to let anything go wrong, he also carried a knife as a backup,” a police source said. When questioned about the knife, the accused reportedly told the cops he did not want to “miss the opportunity” to kill his wife. Had the gun failed, he’d have used the knife to finish off the job. What makes the crime even more disturbing is Balamurugan’s complete lack of remorse. During questioning, he allegedly told investigators that he felt no guilt and claimed that his wife “deserved it”. On Tuesday night, he was taken back to the crime scene for a spot inspection. During the ‘mahazar’, police said he calmly narrated the sequence of events: “I fired five rounds at her. She had a head injury. I was sure she was dead. According to the plan, I walked to the police station and surrendered.” Investigators recovered four spent cartridges from the spot, though the fifth could not be traced. Post-mortem results later confirmed multiple bullet injuries.Police are now looking into how the weapon was sourced — whether it was brought from outside the state, and if others were involved. A few years into the marriage, Balamurugan allegedly began suspecting his wife’s fidelity, frequently accusing her of speaking to other men. After the birth of their son, the disputes reportedly intensified. Despite the birth of their second child – a daughter – the quarrels never ceased. Family members attempted reconciliation in vain. Victim’s family alleges accused assaulted his childrenFamily members of Bhuvaneshwari have alleged that the accused, Balamurugan, not only subjected her to prolonged abuse, but also assaulted their children. Bhuvaneshwari is survived by her parents, two elder brothers and her two children — a son, studying in class 8, and a daughter, who is in UKG. The couple’s eight-year-old son told the media that his father often fought with his mother and beat him and his sister.
