Kerala Film Chamber announces boycott of government theatres

The Kerala Film Chamber has revealed that out of the 184 films released this year, fewer than ten turned out to be commercially successful, leading to a severe financial crisis for government-run cinemas. KSFDC chairman Anil Thomas announced that the Chamber will boycott government theatres starting January. He further stated that the Chamber will not participate in any government-related film events. Calling it a warning protest, Thomas said stricter action would follow if the demands remain unaddressed.

Filmmaker PT Kunju Mohammed was arrested by the police on charges of sexual assault but was released on bail immediately, in accordance with court orders. The arrest followed an anticipatory bail granted by the 7th Additional Sessions Court in Thiruvananthapuram. The court had directed that even if an arrest was necessary for the investigation, bail should be granted immediately without detention. Acting on these instructions, the police carried out a formal arrest and released Kunju Mohammed without delay.
