BJP opposing Hate Speech Bill as it indulges in such acts: Siddaramaiah | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah Monday said the BJP is opposing the Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Bill as it is allegedly involved in making hateful and provocative speeches. He said the legislation was brought to maintain peace and brotherhood in society and curb rising hate speech. “Only those making hate and provocative speech will oppose (the Bill). If you don’t make such speeches, why will some file a criminal case against you?” he told reporters, adding the law applies to all parties. Passed during the winter session in Belagavi, the Bill will be sent to the Governor for assent. The BJP has termed it “draconian”. On Gruha Lakshmi funds, Siddaramaiah said, “We are examining its release,” and rejected BJP allegations, noting payments were made for 23 months.VB-G RAM-G law aimed at weakening MGNREGA: DK ShivakumarKarnataka deputy CM DK Shivakumar Monday alleged that the Centre’s VB-G RAM-G law was brought in to weaken and eventually dismantle the MGNREGA scheme, which he said is a constitutional right linked to Article 21. “Every citizen was provided work through Article 21. In the entire country, Kanakapura is the constituency where I conducted the NREGA experiment,” he said, alleging the new Bill was designed to “kill” the programme by changing the funding ratio. Shivakumar said the shift from the earlier 90:10 Centre-state funding pattern to 60:40 had alarmed Panchayati Raj institutions. Calling it an attack on a scheme named after Mahatma Gandhi, he added, “We never imagined they would ‘strangle’ a scheme named after Mahatma Gandhi,” and said Congress leaders would raise the issue in Delhi.
