Ukraine has firmly rejected Vladimir Putin’s suggestion that Russia could help ensure security for Ukrainian elections, calling the remarks a blatant overreach by the Kremlin. Speaking in Moscow, the Russian President floated the idea of pausing strikes on voting days and raised demands about Ukrainians living inside Russia being allowed to vote — framing elections as a question of “legitimacy.” Kyiv responded swiftly. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made it clear that elections in Ukraine are a sovereign matter, decided only by Ukrainian citizens and institutions — not by Moscow. Zelensky stressed that Putin has no authority to dictate when or how Ukraine votes, especially as the war continues.
