Cops probe Murmu’s fake video on investment

Bengaluru: Police have launched an investigation into a deepfake video circulating on social media that falsely depicts President Droupadi Murmu urging individuals to invest in govt schemes for higher returns.Based on a complaint by D Rakesh, sub-inspector attached with Social Media Monitoring Cell (SMMC), Mahalakshmipuram police registered an FIR. Rakesh said he came across the video on Facebook in which Murmu appeared to promote certain central govt finance projects, encouraging viewers to click on a provided link to earn quick money from home.“Suspicious of the video, we subjected it to deepfake analysis, which confirmed it had been artificially manipulated using AI. There is a risk that unsuspecting citizens watching the video could be misled and lose money,” the complaint read. Police are investigating the source of the video and taking steps to alert the public about the fake content.
