Telangana Police have moved to dispel speculation surrounding the Indian background of Sajid Akram, the slain suspect in Australia’s Bondi beach mass shooting. DGP Shivadhar Reddy confirmed that Akram visited Hyderabad six times after migrating abroad in 1998, but said all visits were personal in nature, including family meetings and property matters. Police traced his Hyderabad address through passport records and conducted a detailed inquiry, concluding there was no evidence of radicalisation or local extremist connections. Akram’s last visit to the city was in July 2022. The statement comes as Australian agencies investigate the December 14 terror attack that left 15 people dead.
