Cidco kicks off international educity project in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai: The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) on Thursday kicked off the development of the proposed International Educity at Kundevahal, Taluka Panvel, Navi Mumbai, on approximately 100 hectares under its Centre of Excellence (COE) project. The initiative aims to position Navi Mumbai as a global education hub by offering world-class healthcare, education, sports facilities, and skill development centres. The COE project is primarily oriented towards integrated healthcare, education, a sports complex of international standards, and a skilling hub. Work on land development accelerated, and the e-tendering process was initiated, said Cidco. Cidco managing director Vijay Singhal said, “The International Educity is a ground-breaking initiative in the field of education that will offer Indian students the opportunity to learn from globally renowned foreign universities and academic experts. It aims to foster a knowledge-driven society while promoting multicultural exchange and research. Our focus is on ensuring the timely completion of the Educity. The International Educity is a landmark initiative, featuring a unique cluster of over 10 international university campuses in one place—one of its kind in the country.” On June 14, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and letter of intent (LOI) were signed between Cidco, the govt of Maharashtra, and five leading international universities—University of York, University of Aberdeen, University of Western Australia, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Istituto Europeo di Design—allowing them to establish campuses in Navi Mumbai. Cidco is facilitating the establishment of world-class university campuses within a 3-4km radius of the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The site is also connected by the Multi-modal Corridor, Samruddhi Expressway, and Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and is within an hour’s drive of Mumbai, said a Cidco spokesperson. The project neighbours Aero-City, Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA), Kharghar Corporate Park, a golf course, and the Panvel Municipal Corporation area. “The site requires levelling and land development, which will be carried out in four parcels to ease plot allotment. Cidco has taken up land development of Part-1 and Part-2 totalling 50 hectares, along with the construction of 45-metre-wide and 30-metre-wide approach roads, and the e-tendering process is underway,” said an official. Once completed, the Educity will have direct access from NH 348 (NH–4B) JNPT Road via a 45-metre-wide road. Cidco is also planning Metro line M-24 to connect the Navi Mumbai International Airport to Panvel Railway Terminus, extending to the NAINA area and linking the proposed Aerocity and Educity for direct connectivity.
