Bengaluru: A 26-year-old man allegedly murdered his neighbour following an altercation over his mother being abused in Ramachandrappa Layout, Ullal Upanagar in western part of the city. The accused, identified as school bus driver Karthik, later called police and confessed to the crime.The victim, 36-year-old Avinash, lived in a shed adjacent to a house owned by his aunt. Karthik and his mother, Sumangala, were tenants in the same building. According to police, the incident occurred around 10.30pm on Monday.Avinash, an alcoholic, had been separated from his wife and children. He often spent time at Sumangala’s house and helped her with chores after the closure of their hotel seven months ago. On the night of the incident, Avinash, allegedly drunk, went to Sumangala’s house and verbally abused her, leading to an argument.Sumangala called Karthik, who rushed home and confronted Avinash. In a fit of rage, Karthik struck Avinash twice on the head and several times on the body with a motorcycle crash guard. Avinash collapsed and succumbed to his injuries despite the duo’s attempt to provide first aid.DCP (south-west) Anitha B Haddannavar said Jnanabarathi police rushed to the spot and arrested Karthik. The safety rod was seized.
