Kalyan: A sanitation worker of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) returned a gold necklace of a woman who accidentally threw the ornament along with the household garbage. As part of their routine morning duty on Wednesday, sanitation workers of Sumeet Elko company appointed by KDMC were collecting garbage from residential areas in Kalyan East.The garbage was being transported to the Kachore Tekdi segregation center. Around the same time, KDMC sanitation inspector Amit Bhalerao received a complaint from KDMC’s ward office that a woman had mistakenly thrown her gold necklace into the garbage bag. He immediately informed Ward No. 4 Area Officer of Sumit Company, Samir Khade.Acting promptly, Khade alerted the concerned waste collection team and instructed the driver to take the garbage-laden vehicle straight to the segregation center without unloading it. The woman who had lost her necklace was also called to the site. Upon reaching the center with her family members, the sanitation staff, in her presence, began carefully searching through the collected garbage. After a detailed search, they successfully found the missing gold necklace and handed it back to the visibly relieved woman.Confirming the recovery, Sumit Company officer Samir Khade praised his team for their honesty and sense of duty. The woman, overjoyed to have her precious jewelry back, expressed deep gratitude toward the sanitation workers.Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the woman said, “I sincerely thank the entire sanitation staff. After I alerted them, they could have easily ignored the search or even kept the necklace for themselves, especially at a time when gold prices are so high. But instead, they acted with complete honesty and ensured the garbage vehicle was not mixed with more waste before finding the necklace. That truly deserves appreciation.“The honesty and commitment shown by these sanitation workers have set an inspiring example for society, earning them widespread praise from the community and municipal authorities.
