Pune Porsche crash case: Juvenile to be tried as minor; JJB rejects police plea | Pune News
NEW DELHI: The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has rejected the Pune Police’s plea to try the 17-year-old boy, involved in the May 2024 Porsche crash that killed two IT professionals, as an adult. The decision means the teenager, referred to as a Child in Conflict with Law (CCL), will continue to face proceedings under the juvenile justice system, news agency PTI reported. The high-profile crash occurred in the early hours of May 19, 2024, when the teenager, allegedly intoxicated and driving a Porsche at high speed, fatally knocked down Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, who were riding a two-wheeler in Kalyani Nagar. The teen is the son of a prominent realtor and was said to be under the influence of alcohol. Shortly after the incident, attempts were allegedly made to tamper with forensic evidence — particularly blood samples — to shield the minor from serious legal consequences. The court is also hearing a separate case against 10 accused, including the boy’s father, two Sassoon Hospital doctors, hospital staff, and middlemen, for their alleged role in swapping the minor’s blood samples with those of his mother in an effort to hide signs of alcohol consumption.(With agency inputs)
