Youth arrested for teenager’s rape, murder in Bengaluru | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: A 26-year-old youth from Raichur was arrested in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in her house Wednesday.The girl’s family from Kalyana Karnataka region was staying near Tavarekere on Magadi Road and working as labourers. The girl was not going to school for the last two years and would do chores in the house when her parents and elder brother went to work.Yelappa, who was initially a mason and then started stealing bikes and mobiles, saw the girl many times in the area and also during the village fair, police said. On Wednesday afternoon, when the girl was in the house, Yelappa barged in through the open door and raped her. He escaped after killing the girl with a blunt metal object. He took a small LPG gas cylinder from the house and rode away on a bike, which he had stolen from a painter Tuesday when the latter was sleeping under a banyan tree on the premises of a temple.The rape and murder came to light when the girl’s brother returned home. He saw her in a pool of blood and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead. Police registered a case of rape, murder and slapped Pocso charges.When police checked CCTV footage, the accused was found taking the LPG cylinder from her house. A special team was formed to nab Yelappa and he was traced in Tavarekere around midnight. During interrogation, Yelappa appeared to be under the influence of ganja and liquor. The metal object he used to kill the girl is yet to be recovered. He told police he sold the cylinder in an adjacent village.
