Karnataka high court tells government not to file chargesheet sans its nod

Bengaluru: The high court Tuesday directed the govt not to file a final report or chargesheet in relation to FIRs registered in the June 4 stampede case without its permission.Justice SR Krishna Kumar gave this direction after hearing petitions filed by Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL), which manages RCB IPL team, and event management company DNA Entertainment Networks Ltd.During the hearing, counsel for RCSPL submitted they are cooperating with the investigation. He said if a chargesheet is filed in the meantime, the possibility of damage caused to them would be irreparable. However, the govt advocate submitted that nothing would happen in the next week or 10 days as investigation would take at least a month to culminate. The judge adjourned the hearing to Aug 5, and the interim order granted earlier was also extended. The court had passed the interim order on June 17 directing police not to take coercive action against the petitioners on the precondition that they should cooperate in the ongoing investigation.
