Narrow escape for helmetless woman as truck hits her scooter in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 23-year-old woman narrowly avoided being crushed under a truck in RR Nagar Saturday morning in what police have called a case of reckless driving and lack of protective gear. The incident took place near Srinivasapura Cross around 8.30am. Geetha, a resident of Srinivasapura and employee at a jewellery store, was heading to work on her two-wheeler when a truck hit her vehicle during a left turn. According to Kengeri traffic police, both the woman and the truck were attempting to turn left when the collision occurred.Geetha was initially riding near the truck’s rear wheel but moved ahead and came to a halt near its front wheel. A BMTC bus was passing nearby, and once it cleared the junction, the truck advanced and hit her scooter. Geetha fell on the road and was nearly pulled under the rear wheels. The driver braked in time, reversed slightly, and local residents rushed to pull Geetha out. She sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.“If she had fallen to the right or if the driver had not applied brakes, the consequences could have been fatal,” police said. The truck driver was arrested and later released on bail. A case has been registered, and the vehicle has been seized.
