Gold worth Rs 10L stolen from Bengaluru club on night of IPL revelry | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: A miscreant allegedly stole gold ornaments worth over Rs 10 lakh belonging to an advocate from a popular club in central Bengaluru recently. Though the incident occurred around June 3 midnight, during the IPL victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), police registered an FIR only on June 28, as they were busy with security duty on June 4 when the advocate approached them with a complaint. The advocate, 67-year-old B Ravindranath Rai of Mangaluru, stated in his complaint with Cubbon Park police that an unidentified person stole his gold from a room at the club. He had come to the city for work and booked a room at the club using his friend’s membership on June 3. He checked into the room around 6.30pm. After watching the match at the club, he returned to his room around midnight and slept. He had placed the ornaments on the TV table in the room. The following day, around 9.30am, he went to the restaurant on the premises for breakfast and returned after an hour. When he went to retrieve his gold, it was missing. All search efforts, including with club personnel, went in vain. The club personnel subsequently verified the CCTV camera footage and found a person entering Ravindranath’s room around 2am and exiting after a few minutes. The intruder is suspected to have stolen the ornaments.According to Ravindranath, the suspect entered the club through the staff gate, spoke with security guards and spent a few hours on the premises before roaming around the club, including the guards’ room and the rooms occupied by members. Delay in registering FIRThough Ravindranath alerted police about the theft and wanted to lodge a complaint, they told him they were busy with the security arrangements for the RCB victory celebrations. Subsequently, cops got busy with the June 4 stampede and complaint registration was delayed. “The thief may be a former employee of the club as CCTV shows him being familiar with the premises,” Ravindranath said. Police have taken up a case of theft.
