Pune rape case: ‘Delivery agent’ who assaulted techie in flat arrested after 2 days; police investigating past connection with victim | India News
NEW DELHI: A man accused of raping a 22-year-old IT professional in Pune’s Kondhwa area has been detained by police, two days after the brutal assault, news agency PTI reported.The suspect allegedly posed as a courier delivery executive and entered the woman’s flat at around 7.30pm on Wednesday. According to police, he showed her what looked like a bank envelope and requested a pen. When she turned to fetch it, he forced his way in, latched the door, and raped her.“She does not remember anything (after this) as she gained consciousness around 8.30pm,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Rajkumar Shinde had said. The woman then informed her relatives, and police were alerted.The man reportedly clicked a selfie on her phone with her unconscious in the background. He also left a message threatening to release her photos on social media if she reported the crime. “I will come again,” he wrote, as per the police.Forensic teams collected nasal and oral swabs to determine whether a chemical spray had been used to render her unconscious. The possibility of the suspect having prior knowledge of the woman is also being investigated.A case has been filed under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 64 (rape), 77 (voyeurism), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation).Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, who visited the crime scene, confirmed that 10 teams had been formed to trace the suspect, including crime branch and zonal units. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and the housing society’s gate entry records.
